Mental Health Week 2024 runs from May 6 – 12, and this year’s theme is “A Call to be Kind”. Because kindness so often starts with self-care, CBA Alberta and our partners at Assist and other CBA branches around the country have curated a selection of programming that gives you the tools to thrive in your career and personal life.

The Canadian Bar Association (CBA), in collaboration with Thomson Reuters, have released the inaugural State of the Canadian Law Firm Market and Canadian Government Lawyers Benchmark reports. These reports offer insights into how firms and government lawyers assess and measure their success, goals, risks, and challenges in today’s legal landscape.

The Canadian Bar Association, Alberta Branch (CBA Alberta), acknowledges the funding commitments by the Alberta government to modernize the justice system in our province, such as through the Justice Digital project. These advancements are essential to improving efficiency and accessibility within our legal system, ultimately benefiting both legal professionals and the public.

The Canadian Bar Association is pleased to announce that Bianca Kratt, K.C., the CBA Board member from Alberta, has been elected to the position of Vice President for 2024-2025. She will serve as CBA President the following year.

To mark World Children’s Day today, the Canadian Bar Association (CBA) and its Child and Youth Law Section call on the federal, provincial and territorial governments to develop and make public detailed action plans in response to the Concluding Observations to Canada of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child.

Each year, September 30 marks National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada, a day for people across the country to reflect on the tragic history and ongoing legacy of Residential Schools. National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is the opportunity to remind ourselves of our history, but also to take action to honour survivors, their families and communities, and to continue to walk the path of Reconciliation.

As we witness a rise of anti-2SLGBTQI+ activity and rhetoric across Canada, we need to redouble our efforts in the fight for equality, which is far from over. Hate, misinformation and violence targeting Two-Spirit, trans, non-binary and gender diverse persons must never be tolerated. Efforts to curtail their rights to live openly and authentically, receive appropriate medical care, and be treated with equal dignity and respect go against their basic human rights and are profoundly harmful.

CBA Alberta SOGIC is changing its name to CBA Alberta SAGDA.
