Biography
Dustin is sole practitioner with Klaudt Law in Vancouver, BC. He grew up on a farm near Medicine Hat, Alberta, studied commerce at the University of Alberta and then law at UBC, and was called to the British Columbia bar in 2014. Dustin already has a wide range of litigation experience, including estate litigation, business disputes, human rights, and administrative law, but his main areas of interest are international law, constitutional law and the law related to climate change litigation – the focus of the LLM he is completing at Osgoode Hall Law School. He worked in South Africa for a year and clerked at the Constitutional Court of South Africa. He has appeared at all levels of court in British Columbia, and at the Supreme Court of Canada. Here are some of his cases to date: AB v CD, 2020 BCCA 11: representing the intervener Egale Canada on the issue of a transgender minor’s access to gender affirming healthcare and protection from family violence. Michel v Graydon, 2019 CanLII 109252 (SCC), representing the intervener West Coast LEAF on the issue of retroactive child support for a child over the age of majority. Brown v Terins, 2016 BCSC 42, representing the defendants on a wills variation action brought by a common law spouse. Outside his legal practice, Dustin volunteers as a coach for the UBC Law School Wilson Moot team and as Co-Chair of the Canadian Bar Association BC Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Community section and Chair of the Equality and Diversity Committee.Co-Chair (North)
