The Section strives to improve CBA Alberta members’ capacity to serve the needs of children by providing continuing professional development to lawyers on matters affecting our diverse populations of children and youth. The section addresses topics including:
- Analyzing and assessing the Child Youth and Family Enhancement Act, An Act Respecting First Nations, Indigenous and Métis children, youth and families, the Divorce Act, and the Family Act,
- Child advocacy Issues,
- Current case law and trends in the areas of Child Protection and Family Law,
- Bringing together expertise from across different legal practice areas and provide legal information,
- Responding to law, policy and legal research developments, and
- Exploring cultural competencies and practical and ethical issues in practice.
Meeting Dates:
- North: 12:00 P.M., fourth Thursday (5 meetings - Sept, Nov, Feb, Apr, Jun)
- South: 12:00 P.M., first Tuesday (monthly)
