Aboriginal Law

A forum for lawyers who practice in the areas of Aboriginal Law and Indigenous Law, and focuses its presentations on topics relevant to those representing First Nations, Metis communities, or Indigenous communities or representing industry, government, tribunals or other stakeholders who have relationships or otherwise impact those communities.

Two feathers of a medicine wheel.

The Section may cover topics including consultation, Treaty rights, Aboriginal rights, specific claims, land claims, resource development, corporate law relevant to Indigenous communities or entities, environmental law and natural resources, recent federal and provincial legislation and recent case law affecting the area.

The Section is also conscious of the Truth and Reconciliation Commissions’ Call to Action 27 and the MMIWG Calls to Justice 10.1.  CBA Alberta and the Aboriginal Law Section strive to be a resource for and make a positive contribution to the CBA’s Commitment to answering Call to Action 27. Recognizing there is much work left to do, we also try to ensure the Section is a welcoming space for our Indigenous colleagues and one that addresses relevant and meaningful topics for all Indigenous peoples.
