Summary

The Engineering and Geoscience Professions Amendment Act amends the Engineering and Geoscience Professions Act to allow anyone to use the title “software engineer” or similar title even if they are not a professional engineer, licensee or permit holder entitled to engage in the practice of engineering, and they shall not be considered, only because of using such words or phrases to represent or hold out, expressly or by implication, that they are entitled to engage in the practice of engineering, or is a professional engineer, licensee or permit holder.

However, the title of “Professional Engineer”, with the designation of “P.Eng” remaining reserved for accredited individuals.

The Act also authorizes the Minister to make further regulations prescribing titles such as “Software Engineer” or similar titles.
