CBA Alberta is pleased to recognize Jenny McMordie with the Cecilia Johnstone Award for Outstanding Service.
On behalf of the CBA Alberta Executive Committee, Board of Directors and 5,100+ members, we congratulate Jenny on this well-deserved honour.
Dedicated, humble, a true trailblazer, and unwavering in her commitments are just a few of the qualities that define this year’s recipient, Jenny McMordie.
For over 20 years, Jenny has been a dedicated mentor to law students, actively participating in mentorship initiatives and providing thoughtful guidance to those entering the profession. She consistently encourages her articling students to join the CBA, fostering early and meaningful involvement.
Jenny served as president for CBA Alberta from 2017-2018 and put in countless hours to represent the Branch and our members. During her time on the Executive Committee, the organization was undergoing governance changes both nationally and at the Branch, and Jenny was part of the Council that created the new bylaws and the Board model that serve us well today.
Those who know her will appreciate Jenny’s authenticity and compassion, and she continues to be an effective and passionate advocate for the best interests of members, both as individuals and collectively. Jenny does not rest on her laurels and remains an active and engaged member of the CBA, regularly contributing to Section initiatives and serving as a trusted and generous speaker for Association programs.
This award, named in honour of our former CBA Alberta Branch President who went on to serve as the CBA National’s first female president, reflects a lasting legacy, one that reminds us how a single person can deeply influence so many lives. Cecilia’s spirit lives on through all she inspired, and each recipient proudly continues her path.
Madam Justice Cecilia Johnstone passed away in April 2006, and in March 2007 the Outstanding Service Award was officially renamed the Cecilia Johnstone Award for Outstanding Service in her memory. Learn more about the award here.
