Policy

  1. Liquor service and consumption is permitted at some CBA Alberta Branch events, to be done responsibly and in compliance with this policy.
  2. Events held by CBA Alberta Branch will be in compliance with the rules and regulations in Alberta established by AGLC for service and consumption.
  3. Members of the legal profession are expected to act responsibly in respect of liquor consumption.
  4. The CBA Alberta Branch is responsible for:
    1. Controlling the opening and closing of CBA Alberta-hosted events with liquor service.
    2. Taking reasonable steps to ensure the safety of event attendees, including discouraging further consumption of liquor by a person who appears impaired.
    3. Taking reasonable steps to provide alternative transportation for anyone who appears to be impaired for any reason, and making it known that reasonable expenses will be reimbursed by the CBA Alberta Branch (receipts in support of such expense are to be provided whenever possible).
    4. Ensuring adequate resources are in place if persons who appear impaired refuse to take advice for alternative transportation, and will seek additional assistance as needed.
  5. The CBA Alberta Branch will designate an event coordinator to attend the event and, together with other event volunteers and CBA-Alberta Branch representatives present, carry out the CBA Alberta Branch responsibilities set out above.
  6. Non-alcoholic beverages will be available. Service of non-alcoholic beverages will continue after liquor service has closed.
  7. Food will be available at all events where liquor is served.
  8. “Don’t Drink and Drive” and “Ride service will be reimbursed” signage will be displayed at events and will be included in notices of events.
